The Nightengale’s Song

Legend tells of a great Emperor of China who was said to have been birthed from the stars. One day, this same Emperor heard word of a beautiful singing Nightingale and demanded to have the bird in the court immediately. The Nightingale heard of the great request and agreed to an audience with Emperor, staying for some time. The Nightingale not only became great friends with the Emperor but was the honored performer for many of the court’s visitors and traveling governing officials. Out of gratitude, a traveling guest of the Emperor sent a mechanical bird with a beautiful song that captivated the Emperor. Soon, completely occupied by his mechanical gift, the Emperor lost interest in his friend and the Nightingale took flight, moving back to the forest.
Weeks, months went by and suddenly the toy bird died, never to sing again. None of the emperor’s great engineers could fix the mechanical bird and, for the first time, the Emperor took notice that his friend the Nightingale had left. The realization of how the great ruler had treated his friend the Nightingale came later and brought the Emperor into a deep, sickening depression. Unable to eat, sleep, or rule, China was sure their leader would expire right before their eyes. The Nightingale heard of the sadness killing the Emperor and went to sing for their old friend. Hardly able to believe his ears, the Emperor was filled with so much gratitude to see his friend again. Almost instantly, the Emperor was brought back to good health and was able to continue ruling the great country of China with his friend by his side.
